No white for Ghana: FIFA confirms Black Stars will not wear Ananse home kit for group games
Ghana will not wear their new culturally inspired home kit during the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as FIFA has confirmed match colour designations that will see the Black Stars take to the pitch in alternative colours for all three Group L fixtures.
The sportswear giant Puma recently unveiled Ghana’s new kits in New York City, with the home jersey featuring a white base and a bold cobweb motif inspired by Kwaku Ananse, the legendary spider figure in West African folklore.
The design incorporates interwoven lines in red, yellow, green and blue, symbolising wisdom, creativity and resilience.
The away kit adopts a striking “Sunny Yellow” base inspired by the energy of Accra’s Makola Market, featuring tonal patterns of Adinkra symbols and Kente cloth influences.
However, under FIFA’s regulations for the tournament, each team must submit home and away shirts before the competition to avoid colour clashes.
FIFA then decides which shirt each team will wear in each match, prioritising first-choice colours where possible but implementing a dark-kit and light-kit colour contrast whenever possible to accommodate viewers with colour deficiencies.
According to FIFA’s released match colour designations for the 72 group stage fixtures, Ghana will not be wearing their traditional white home kit in any of their three group matches.
Ghana’s group stage fixtures and kit colours

The Black Stars will open their Group L campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17, followed by a clash with England at Boston Stadium on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.

FIFA’s preference is for each team to wear its first-choice colours during matches. However, when a clash occurs, a sequence of principles is followed to ensure an acceptable colour contrast. While the specific colour designations for each Ghana match have not been publicly detailed in the released information, it has been confirmed that Ghana will not be wearing their home kit during the group stage.

Knockout stage possibility
There remains a chance that the white home kit could be seen at the World Cup, but that depends entirely on whether Ghana reaches the knockout stages of the tournament. If the Black Stars advance beyond the group stage, the shirt may yet make an appearance.
Other kit decisions
FIFA confirmed that all previous winners of the FIFA World Cup participating in North America this summer will commence their campaigns in their traditional kits.
Argentina will wear their famous ‘Albiceleste’ outfit, Brazil their yellow shirt and blue shorts, England all white, France navy blue and white, Germany white with black, red and gold features, Spain red and blue, and Uruguay light blue.
Kit innovations for 2026
All kits for every match throughout the tournament will be embellished with the competition badge on the right sleeve and a special social impact campaign badge on the left sleeve.
Throughout the group stage, “Unite for Peace” badges will send a powerful global message, while “Unite for Education” will be the key focus throughout the knockout rounds.
In a new innovation for 2026, patches to honour specific individual achievements will also adorn team kits. Players making their debut will sport a FIFA World Cup debut patch, while past winners of the Golden Boot, Golden Ball and Golden Glove will be recognised with gold honours patches.
Additionally, a FIFA World Cup legacy patch will pay tribute to players featuring in their fifth or sixth World Cups, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Guillermo Ochoa.
The Black Stars will be hoping to progress beyond the group stage to give their striking new home kit the platform it deserves.
For now, Ghanaian fans will have to wait to see the Kwaku Ananse-inspired design on the world stage.
Kit colours remain subject to change until the match coordination meeting held the day prior to each game. Colours for the knockout stages of the tournament will be confirmed once the matches are determined.
