Ghana striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh stole the spotlight on Saturday as he scored his first competitive goal for FC Zurich, propelling his team to a resounding 3-0 victory over Lugano in the Swiss Super League.
Barnieh’s electrifying performance at the Letzigrund Stadium saw him netting a brace in the 68th and 76th minutes, setting the stage for a comfortable win. The momentum was further sealed when Congolese winger Jonathan Okita secured the victory with a third goal, capping off a memorable outing for FC Zurich.
The goals were the Ghanaian’s first since joining FC Zurich in January 2023. He struggled in his first season, in part because he arrived in the middle of the season. He spent the majority of his time with the reserve team, where he failed to impress.
But this season has been a different story. He scored a couple of goals in preseason and has carried that form into the season.
The 22-year-old forward has already left a mark in the ongoing season, having featured in all four games and netting two crucial goals. This resurgence in his performance serves as a testament to his hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his team’s success.
