APlus writes to Speaker, asking that Abena Osei Asare should be removed as chairperson of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly know as APlus has written to the Speaker of Parliament asking that the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare should be removed as chairperson of the Public Accounts Select Committee of Parliament (PAC).

To him, Abena Osei Asare has no moral authority to lead the PAC, having served as an immediate past deputy Minister of Finance and especially under whose tenure many of the issues currently before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Public Accounts are being probed based on the report of the Auditor-General.

He is therefore asking the Speaker that she should be removed as chair of the committee.

His letter, dated November 2, 2025, has been shared on social media by him.

“I have formally written to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament to request his support for the removal of Hon. Abena Osei Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.

This step is to protect the integrity and dignity of Parliament, especially the committee tasked with ensuring accountability in the management of public funds.

It is important to note — and Ghanaians must be fully aware — that all the matters currently before the Public Accounts Committee occurred under the leadership of Abena Osei Asare when she served as Deputy Minister of Finance. She cannot now turn around to demand answers from newly appointed officials on issues that happened under her own watch.

That is not just hypocrisy — it is an insult to the intelligence of the Ghanaian people.

We must not allow those who presided over financial irregularities to sit in judgment over them.
