“Do rap songs that both the young and elderly can enjoyably listen to” – King Pharaoh of Akatakyie fame
A member of Akatakyie music duo, King Pharaoh born Ebenezer Kwasi Okyere Asumaning has advised the new crop of artistes who do rap to produce songs for both the young and the elderly to admire their craft.
“There are some raps that when an elderly person listen to they realize that this rapper is saying something which is worth listening to,” he remarked.
Talking to Kastle FM’s Amansan Krakye on the Kastle Drive show, King Pharaoh of Akatakyie fame who recently celebrated his birthday said the kind of rap and lyrics the new crop of artistes produce don’t make their songs last long.
“Most of the new crop of rappers are more interested in jumpy jumpy stuff and it doesn’t help their songs to last long so it doesn’t make their music career to grow,” he added.
“So I think all of us should make sure that the rap we come out shouldn’t be too lengthy so that everyone can listen, else you’ll get only kids who will be cheering you up,” he ended.
Veteran Hiplife group, Akatakyie is made up of two brothers, Kobby Culture and King Pharaoh. Their 1999 maiden album ‘Odo Esisi Me’ won them the Best Hiplife Song Award in the Ghana Music Awards organized in the year 2000.
