In the NPP’s recent presidential primary, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2024 general election. Dr. Bawumia secured 118,210 votes to will the election.

With this victory, Dr Bawumia is set to face ex-President John Dramani Mahama, who received the endorsement of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier in the year.

The 2024 election is anticipated to be a highly competitive contest between the NPP and the NDC, both aiming to break the historical trend of no party securing more than two consecutive terms under the Fourth Republic.
