GH¢10K bribe allegations made us vote against Ernest Arthur to preserve our credibility – Assemblyman reveals
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) has rejected the nomination of Ernest Arthur as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
According to credible sources at Kastle FM in Cape Coast, the President’s nominee polled 34 out of the 65 valid votes cast, representing 52.3 percent which wasn’t enough to secure his approval.
Hon. Frederick Johnson who is the assemblyman at Aboom-Master Sam electoral area has stated that ahead of the election to endorse the MCE nominee, it was widely alleged that each assembly member has been bribed with an amount of GH¢10,000.
Speaking to Amansan Krakye after the election to endorse the MCE nominee, Hon. Frederick Johnson said the allegations of bribery made some assembly members to vote against Ernest Arthur in order to ensure their credibility isn’t tarnished.
He remarked “Infact this election has become one of the most tensed confirmation that has happened because prior to the elections, there was a lot of speculation and allegations.
“Especially in the media or social media that we’ve been bribed, someone has done a video on social media that all the assembly members have been offered GH¢10,000 each by MCE for him to be endorsed,” he revealed.
He ended “It’s speculation out there so just imagine the credibility issues we are going to face in our electoral area, meanwhile the MCE hasn’t given such an amount to us so that counted a lot”.
