We expected unfounded allegations that we want to rig the 2020 election for NPP – Dr. Asare Bossman

The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in-charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Eric Asare Bossman has labelled allegations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that they want to rig the election 2020 as baseless and impossible.
He made these remarks when asked by Oman Nana whether the Electoral Commission is actually scheming to rig the election in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an exclusive interview with Kastle FM 90.3MHz in Cape Coast.
He responded “As for that one you know that Ghana with the nature of our politics, some people can make unfounded allegations. If you observe what we’re doing critically and you’re not a supporter of any political party or the EC your job is to look at what the EC is doing, your job is to assess the performance of the EC.
“Even in the midst of problems or challenges, is it possible the EC can take advantage of the problems to favour one particular political party, it is not possible. If you monitor the political atmosphere you’d realize that the major political parties always have opposing views so there is no way the electoral commission can rig the election for the NPP.”
Dr Bossman Eric Asare said that the transparency displayed by the Electoral Commission by revealing the number of registered voters in every polling station across the country is an indication that they are prepared to ensure free and fair elections.
He said “Even with the registration exercise, we put all the figures out for Ghanaians to be aware. For instance, in Cape Coast we know the number we got there and in Central Region, we know that Awutu Senya East got the highest number about 153,000.
“We have all those information there so anyone who feels that the electoral commission is doing something to favour someone, when we’re done and we put the figures out there and we’ll compare with the previous one.
“We know that Central Region registered in excess of 1.5million voters so we’ll compare to see if we’re on track. But everyone knows this is a scientific process which no one can twist anything to favour someone.
He revealed that the minor challenges they are facing with the exhibition of voter’s register doesn’t mean that they are targeting strongholds of the opposition party because no one registered their name in the register by revealing their identity as a member of either NPP or NDC.
He added: “We also know that those who have had some minor challenges in the process didn’t register in the name of one particular political party so if you understand the politics of Ghana, you know that these allegations are to be expected.
“But we as electoral commission our job is to ensure that everything is on point. Those who registered have their particulars in the voters register intact and that’s what we’re committed to doing.”
