The 3rd edition of the Asankamu Festival organised by Fed Kastle Multimedia Limited, owners of Kastle 90.3 FM successfully came off at the forecourt of the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium in Cape Coast.

Asankamu Festival has now come to stay becoming one of the main celebrity family outdoor programmes that most Cape Coasters look out for each year.

The rationale for the festival according to the Executive Director of Fed Kastle Multimedia Limited, owners of Kastle 90.3 FM, Mr Francis Ejaku Donkoh is to showcase some delicacies of the Ghanaian people thereby encouraging Ghanaians to patronize made-in-Ghana products, especially food.

It is celebrated on the first Friday of every December, which coincidentally is Farmers’ Day. Therefore, it seeks to provide free Ghanaian meals for people and to applaud the hard work of our gallant farmers.

Organizers of the festival brought together some of the best traditional caterers within the Cape Coast environs to converge at the venue to prepare fufu, rice balls (omotuo), konkonte and banku with various kinds of soups to match.

It is normally a gratis programme where all one needs to do is to come along with an ‘asanka’ (traditional blender or Ghanaian grinding pot that is made out of clay with ridges inside). Once at the venue, you go to any of the caterers contracted to cook and you are served any of the 4 Ghanaian dishes on display with your preferred soup with either fish, meat, offal, bush meat or a mixture of all.

The colourful event saw most of the guests clad in branded 2023 Asankamu shirts of white, green, violet and black, and this year’s programme brought together about 5000 people.

The side attraction apart from the free food, shirts and drinks was the stage performance by Obrafuor, arguably Ghana’s best rapper in contemporary times.

Other local artists who graced the festival were: Kobby Simple, Kwame Zaggy, Okotor Perry, Minab, Loyce, Emoji, Keziah Adu, Zelloys, Kingspack, Youknow, Kaikaiku, Don Prophecy and others.

Asankamu 2023 Festival was proudly sponsored by Ridge Royal Hotel, Bel Beverages, Obibini and Blackman Company Limited with educational speeches coming from representatives of the Food and Drugs Authority and Federation of Ghana Medical Student Association.

Francis Ejaku Donkoh, Executive Director of Fed Kastle Multimedia Limited, speaking on the sidelines of the festival assured that next year God-willing, they intend to shift the venue to Adisadel School and Colleges Park to have a massive celebration.

Participants at the year’s festival were full of elation to Kastle FM for providing them with free shirts, and food and treating them to some wonderful rendition of music from Obrafuor and other local artists and promised to participate in next year’s edition.
