It’s unfortunate to be paid GH¢200 as royalties after my numerous hit songs – Mzbel weeps
Controversial songstress, Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah known in showbiz as Mzbel has bemoaned the paltry amount of money being paid to musicians as royalties for their creativity.
She remarked “Looking at my hit songs I did in the past I’m supposed to be enjoying huge royalties but unfortunately that’s not the reality on the ground.
“In Ghana when it comes to royalties you’d be there for a long time and some coins will come I mean some paltry amount,” Mzbel told Amansan Krakye.
Mzbel who emerged onto the music scene about 2 decades ago and has produced several hit songs over the years said on Kastle FM that she sometimes receives as low as GH¢200 as royalties.
“The system here the structures have not been properly put in place that’s why it’s not favouring us those in the creatives,” she continued.
Mzbel told the host “But royalties are supposed to be paid based on how often and the number of times your songs are being played.
“However, in our case the monies are collected together and shared amongst the registered members who are musicians so you might get around GH¢200 and it’s even funny to mention,” she ended.
