Katy Perry says she’s “honoured” to be part of the first all-female crew to fly to space on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket.

The 40-year-old US popstar will be joined by five other women on the New Shepard NS-31 mission, including Bezo’s partner, Lauren Sanchez, who picked the crew.

Flying alongside them will be CBS Mornings presenter Gayle King, former Nasa rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut and activist Amanda Nguyen, and movie producer Kerianne Flynn.

The rocket will blast off at 2.30pm (BST) on Monday from West Texas. The trip will last 11 minutes, taking the crew more than 100km over the boundary of the Earth.

Ahead of the trip, Ms Perry wrote on Instagram: “I’ve dreamt of going to space for 15 years and tomorrow that dream becomes a reality.

“I am so honoured to be alongside five other incredible and inspiring women as we become the first ever all-female flight space crew!”

She also shared a video of the capsule she had been training in and revealed her call name is ‘Feather’.

It will be the 11th human flight for the Blue Origin programme, which has taken passengers including Amazon chief executive Mr Bezos to space since 2021.

The crew will be able to be experience weightlessness before the capsule returns to Earth with a parachute assisted landing.
