Sarkodie has sustained Hiplife since the era of Obrafour, and co faded – King Pharaoh of Akatakyie fame

Veteran member of Hiplife group, Akatakyie who is popularly known as King Pharaoh has said that he finds it commendable how BET Awards winner, Sarkodie has been the torchbearer for Hiplife in Ghana.

He said “For me as at now I think that Sarkodie is the only rapper who has held up hiplife till now and I really respect him a lot. His style of rap is unique and when you listen to him you’d hear something different.”

King Pharaoh of Akatakyie music group who are credited to have contributed a lot to the Hiplife genre told Amansan Krakye on Kastle FM that Sarkodie is a unique rapper but also learnt a lot from the Hiplife pioneers.

“Most of the rappers like TeePhlow and Medikal are doing great but when you listen to Sarkodie you’d realize that he learnt a lot of good vibes from us,” he remarked.

“Sarkodie has been able to brand himself and if you listen to his rap you’ll see that he learnt a lot from the pioneers like Lord Kenya, Obrafour, Akatakyie and the rest,” he added.

Akatakyie’s style of music has been the trend many hiplifers have trended on. They’ve had hits like Ghana mmaa, Agoo, Sinsima, Esi, Odo esisi me, Sie sie obaa no featuring Okyeame Kwame.

“That is why I was expecting the other guys to learn something from Sarkodie but unfortunately you’d realize that they end up rather copying his style of rap and it doesn’t help them at all,” he continued.

“And for me as at now we only have one rapper that I will say Sarkodie is one rapper that I really admire,” he told the host on the Kastle Drive show.
