Wener put on a splendid performance today and was more lively even though he couldn’t score. Out of his busy rounds and astuteness, he gave Chelsea some respite after following a Chilwell pass and laying a sublime one for Mount to tack into the last end of the pole beating Aaron Ramsdale.

However, Werner was disappointed that referee Kevin Friend was not a  more friendly referee by giving the obviously clear penalty only to do so after a VAR decision.

Italian midfield dynamo, Jorginho converted the penalty in his usual kangaroo trickery shoot in the 58th minute making it 2 after Rudiger’s own goal cancelled the great record about to be set by the new manager, Tuchel.

According to Timo Werner, he was shocked the referee didn’t blow the whistle immediately.

“I was shocked, as I thought it was a clear penalty, I pushed the ball away from him [Ramsdale] and he got me. VAR is good and helped the referee. In football, when someone does mistakes a goal comes -both teams made mistakes today ” he added.

Although he was adjudged the man of the match deservedly, he sustained an injury that gave him a dead leg hence after some minutes, he had to alert Tuchel to take him off so he could be treated.

“I have a dead leg from that penalty tackle – the 10/15 minutes after were hard, so I told the manager to take me off. I think it’s better to have 11 fit players on the pitch not ten and a half ” he intimated.

The win takes Chelsea to the fifth position where they lie behind Liverpool who were shambolic and lost to Manchester City by four goals to one.
