Akatsi blacksmith arrested over alleged supply of guns to robbers; three suspects still on the run
A local blacksmith suspected of producing weapons for armed robbers has been arrested following a police operation targeting a criminal network in the Akatsi area of the Volta Region.
The Ghana Police Service said the operation, carried out on April 21, 2026, by the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police, led to the arrest of three suspects and the retrieval of a cache of arms from the outskirts of Gavekope.
The suspects are Enoch Adoglo, who was first arrested at Gavekope, Cephas Aniwaa, the blacksmith alleged to have been manufacturing and supplying weapons to the group, and David Adzinu.
Police said the suspects are being processed for court.
Items retrieved during the operation include seven single-barrel rifles, five locally manufactured pistols, one revolver, 64 rounds of ACP ammunition, 11 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four live BB cartridges, 18 spent BB cartridges, three mobile phones and winding tools.
The police said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to deal with robbery activities in the area.
Despite the arrests, three suspects identified as central figures in the network remain at large.
They are Mensah Kedzi, who police link to several robberies, including an incident on April 3, 2026, a suspect identified as Akakpo, described as an ex-convict, and another named Ageh.
Police said the three are being pursued and appealed to the public to provide information to assist in their arrest.
The police did not give a timeline for further arrests and did not provide details of other incidents linked to the group beyond the April 3 case.
The information was contained in a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on April 26, 2026.
