GPRTU and government negotiates new fares this week
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the ministry in charge of Transport and other relevant stakeholders are set to have a sit down again this week to discuss issues concerning lorry fare increment.
Report says that the earlier meeting was unsuccessful because a proper consensus wasn’t reached.
This conversation began after drivers decided to adjust their fares within the price range of 20% and 40%.
Sighted in an interview on Citi News, Mr. Godwin Abulbire (General Secretary of GPRTU) said, they will honor Tuesday’s meeting and will do that with clear conscience and open hands.
He further added that, citizens should have expected an increase margin of 20% but due to the reduction in fuel prices they are ready to negotiate for a margin of 10% or 15% all dependent on aftermath of the meeting.
He concluded by saying that, drivers were told to hold their grounds with respect to the increment in fares until negotiations are done.
