The Central regional director of education, Dr. Mrs. Juliet Dufie Otami, has called on stakeholders in education to tackle indiscipline among student to achieve a greener and more sustainable future.
Addressing the theme for the program, ”Empowering Student for a Greener and Sustainable Future for our Environment; The Role of Stakeholders”, Dr. Dufie Otami said environmental sustainability cannot be achieved without addressing the challenges of indiscipline in schools.
She explained that, the curriculum framework is specifically designed to promote character development and civic discipline through social and emotional learning.
According to her, acts such as littering, vandalism, disrespect and defacing school property are forms of indiscipline that undermine effort to create a clean and sustainable school environment.
She urged students to respect school rules and regulations while calling on school heads and teachers to firmly and fairly enforce good conduct and discipline among learners.
Dr. Dufie made this call during the official launch of ”Schools and Colleges Sanitation Ambassadors’ Forum’‘ at Adisadel College in Cape Coast.
The second to speak was the MCE of Cape Coast Hon. George Justice Arthur, who welcomed the ”Schools and Colleges Sanitation Ambassadors’ Youth Forum” as a step in the right direction.
He commended Adisadel College for coming up with such initiative, which has come inline with the Dirt Free and Greener Cape Coast policy, adding, both are a blueprint to make Cape Coast the cleanest city.
In view of this, he said waste bins have been provided to the various communities and the bye-laws are being enforced.
He also spoke about the Cape Coast tourism and sanitation ambassadors which the assembly has already inaugurated to ensure tourist sites, streets and beaches are clean.
The MCE further challenged the young ambassadors to be foot soldiers of Greener Cape Coast, stressing they should adopt at least a tourist site, a stretch of road or a beach and make it a mandate to keep it clean and he assured, their names will be endorsed as caretakers.
Hon. George Arthur, finally tasked these young ambassadors to enforce and report issues of environmental degradation through the various sanitation platforms.
He further urged that the agenda zero waste must be ensured even beyond the Fetu Festivities.
Finally, Mr. Abdul Razak Ali Yusif who is a sanitation ambassador also called for collaboration with the government to address sanitation challenges confronting the nation.
He called fellow students to be good ambassadors to make sure our environment is clean for today and the future generations.
The event attracted some selected second cycle schools within the metropolis like Mfantsipim, University Practice, Academy of Christ the King, Wesley Girls, Cape Coast Senior High Technical among others.
