Entitlement mentality of abroad branches not good for party cohesion – Benjamin Quashie

The Entitlement Mentality of NDC abroad branches must stop if we’re to make headway – Benjamin Kofi Quashie

Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie, South African National Democratic Congress Council of Elders Chairman has indicated that the entitlement mentality of the NDC abroad branches is not helpful for the party cohesion.

According to him, the abroad branches feel so entitled and that is not the way to go.

“For some people to think that things should be done the way they want always is not the way to go. This attitude and posture has come about due to the contributions they make towards the party”, he explained.

Mr. Quashie in a telephone interview on CTV Wednesday, 9th August 2023, and reacting to concerns by some foreign branches against Alex Segbefia behaviors, said, Alex Segbefia is human and not above criticisms but, “One thing I know for sure is he would not go contrary to what the party says and to the terms of reference of the International Relations Department of the party, that, I can assure you”, he assured party members who have issues with Alex Segbefia.

The SA Council Chair made these reactions because of an accusation against the International Relations Director of the NDC about his intransigence regarding organizing re-elections at the UK/Ireland branches of the party.

“Alex Segbefia has lived in the UK/Ireland and would understand the issues there more than me and you (the host). It would be very unfair to say that you’ve tried calling him to clarify issues and he’s not picking up. Alex Segbefia has always wanted to be called to clarify issues to the public”, he corrected the erroneous impression about Alex Segbefia.

In his appeal to the party supporters, Mr. Benjamin Quashie cautioned party members especially those abroad to be measured in their demands on the party and its executive members. “In politics, you cannot feel entitled and believe that something should be done for you alone. There should be compromises here and there”, and that is what helps to build a political party.
