I’m one of the pioneers who started ‘new age’ afrobeats movement in the world – TiC controversially reveals

Historic Ghanaian musician and rapper, TiC who was formerly known as Tic Tac has controversially stated that he is one of the pioneers who started the new age afrobeat movement in the world.

He disclosed to Amansan Krakye on Kastle FM in Cape Coast “We started what we call the afrobeat movement in the world and I’m part of the pioneers”.

TiC born Nana Kwaku Okyere Duah has also revealed that he was recently interviewed for an afrobeat documentary by Nigerians due to his role in establishing the music genre in Africa and the world over.

He said “Recently Nigerians did a documentary for afrobeat in Nigeria and they came all the way to Ghana to interview me about it.

“They can’t leave me out because they know definitely I was part of the beginning, I was one of the few people who spearheaded new age afrobeat in Africa,” TiC ended.

The term Afrobeat was originally coined in the 1960s by Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and bandleader, Fela Kuti who is responsible for pioneering and popularizing the music genre.
