I’ve never received a car and house gift from artistes I produce hit songs for – Master Garzy

Ghanaian record producer, Benjamin Garzy Mensah professionally known as Mix Master Garzy has revealed that he’s not used to receiving gifts from musicians he has produced hit songs for.

He revealed “I don’t get gifts from artiste I do produce songs for. Maybe they’ve not gotten that money yet to be dashing out gifts to us the sound engineers. They feel they’ve paid you to produce the song for them so that’s all.

“But they should also remember that the money they paid me for the production if the song should hit the artiste will earn more than 20 times of the amount they paid for the beat. When a song also becomes a hit it doesn’t die off,” he added.

Mix Master Garzy disclosed to Amansan Krakye on Kastle FM that most producers only make money from the initial amount they charge the artistes because our royalties system doesn’t work effectively.

He continued “So the artiste will continue making money from that song. Meanwhile our royalties system in Ghana isn’t working so the producer wouldn’t earn anything from that hit song except the initial amount the artiste paid for the beat.

“I know a couple of producers who put their hope in artiste but get disappointed. However, if you help a mainstream artiste to hit, it is most likely that the emerging ones will also love to work with you so that you make some money out of your works.

The multiple awards winner, Mix Master Garzy finally advised his colleague sound engineers not to depend on freebies from artistes they’ve produced hit songs for but they should rather work hard.

He concluded “At times I advise my colleagues not to depend on the gifts from artistes but they should also work hard to make ends meet,” he told Amansan Krakye on Kastle Entertainment Show.
