Kotoko fans booed Asamoah Gyan to frustrate him and distract his attention – Gladson Awako

Captain for Accra Great Olympics, Gladson Awako feels that Asamoah Gyan was disrespected by Asante Kotoko fans during Saturday’s Ghana Premier League match between the club and the Legon Cities side.

“I feel that after watching the video of Asamoah Gyan what I realized was that he felt disrespected by the fans. We should give him that respect as to where he’s been able to get to in world football and what he has done for our country,” he remarked.

He said “Today if he didn’t play for Asante Kotoko and he’s playing for another team, it doesn’t mean that he should be disrespected and be called names. Though everyone in a way was trying to take his concentration down because they know what he’s capable of doing.”

In an interview with Amansan Krakye on Kastle FM in Cape Coast, Gladson Awako said that what most of the fans sought to do was to distract the attention of Asamoah Gyan because they know what he’s capable of doing.

“So in a way they did that to frustrate him in the match but I will plead with the fans to comport themselves when they come to watch us play,” he advised.

He revealed “I can’t really tell what actually happened but when I watched his video I realized he wasn’t happy at all so I will plead that we should be mindful.

“So that others who have played abroad and back in Ghana will have that desire to want to play in our local football league, will come openly and be happy to play so that our league will be exciting,” he added.

“Besides Asamoah Gyan playing our league has boosted the image of the Ghana Premier League so it means we have to be careful to attract other top stars like him,” he ended.
