We Have a Deal with Russia, Now We Need Zelenskyy’s Consent

During a conversation with journalists, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Russia is supposedly ready to make a deal to end the war in Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that reaching an agreement with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has turned out to be more difficult than expected.
Trump made these remarks in the Oval Office.
He said that he believes Russia is ready for negotiations. However, in his view, achieving a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine is difficult because finding common ground with the Ukrainian president is challenging.
“In my opinion, Russia is ready. Many people said that Russia is ready to agree to anything. But I think we have a deal with Russia. We need to reach a deal with Zelenskyy. And I hope that Zelenskyy… I thought it would be easier to negotiate with him, but so far it’s been more difficult. But that’s okay, it’s all good. I think we have a deal with both sides. I hope they will accept it. We’re spending a lot of money. But this is about humanity,” Trump said.
Trump once again criticized Joe Biden’s administration for its large-scale spending on supporting Ukraine.
“We’re spending hundreds of billions of dollars because of Biden. Biden should never have allowed this war to happen. We’re spending hundreds of billions, maybe $350 billion, that we gave to Ukraine, and we could have used that money right here,” said Trump.
The U.S. President also claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s position on not recognizing Crimea as Russian harms peace negotiations.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States has a better understanding of Russia’s stance on its war against Ukraine, saying, “We finally talked to them after three years of silence.”
It was previously reported that the Trump administration handed Ukraine a one-page document in Paris last week, presented as a “final proposal” for a peace settlement — the key points of this proposal are outlined in this news.
Among other things, the U.S. is reportedly ready to recognize Russia’s control over Ukrainian Crimea and to ease sanctions against Moscow as part of a potential peace agreement.
