According to him, Ghana’s economy in the year 2022 was bad and if care is not taken by the managers of the country’s economy, it might be worsened in 2023.

The member of parliament for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrim constituency in the Central region who also doubles as the chairman of the finance committee of parliament, Hon. According to him, Ghana’s economy in the year 2022 was bad and if care is not taken by the managers of the country’s economy, it might be worsened in 2023.

Ghana 2022 experienced a deep economic crisis, with rampant inflation that reached almost 40%, and its currency saw a fall of almost half compared to the US dollar.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, who faced several protests in the country because of the situation, admitted that Ghana is in crisis and blamed what he called “malevolent forces…that have come together at the same time” referring to the COVID and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ghana, along with many African economies, was still recovering from the pandemic when it was hit by the global increase in the price of food and energy, caused by the war in Ukraine. But the country also had to deal with the fall of the Cedi which was one of the world’s worst performing against the dollar last year.

The MP further lamented about the debt situation which has seen a skyrocketing under the NPP government noting that, before the NDC left office in 2016, the country’s debt rate was hundred and twenty billion Ghana cedis (GH120 Billion) which the NPP government has incurred about four hundred and fifty billion (GH450 Billion) in addition within six years by the Nana Addo -Bawumia led government.

Hon. Samuel Atta Mills made this assertion during an interview section on the personality profile on Kastle Drive on Kastle 90.3 Fm in Cape Coast hosted by Akua Agyekumwaa on Thursday 12th January 2023.

Formal personal assistance to the former president John Evans Atta Mill has shared his view on numerous happenings in the year 2022 in the country, especially in parliament, and expressed worry about some of the proceedings in parliament.
