‘They gave me a job to shut me up,’ claims A-Plus on NPP’s intentions

Kwame Asare-Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, better known as A-Plus, has accused the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration of attempting to muzzle his criticism by offering him a government-affiliated position.

He claims that the party expected his outspokenness to taper off once he held an official post.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Sunday, 4 May, A-Plus explained that the role he was given involved oil lifting at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST).

“The problem with the NPP is that they gave me a job, expecting that now that you are eating, don’t talk. But they didn’t tell me that when they were giving me the job. I like talking more than eating,” he said.

He added that his persistent critiques quickly became unwelcome.

“One or two months into the business, they said I was talking too much. So they took the job away. As for pay, I got only one month,” A-Plus revealed, noting that his appointment was abruptly revoked and his tenure cut short.

Despite the setback, he remains undeterred.

“They expected that once I had the position, I would keep quiet,” he remarked. “But I won’t stop speaking out just because I have a job.”
