Akrobeto motivated me to venture into acting, movie production and directing – Kaakyire Kwame Appiah

Veteran Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, the man who in the past spiced up Christmas festivities with his smash album ‘Bronya’ has revealed how he ventured into movies and became an actor.

Talking about how he eventually started acting and then moved into movie production and directing, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah told Amansan Krakye that he was motivated by popular actor, Akwasi Boadi aka Akrobeto to become an actor.

Kaakyire Kwame Appiah whose music career seems to be on a hiatus, said on Kastle FM in Cape Coast that when he was a member of the African Heroes Band in 1987 he used to act on stage, stating that that was how he got the name ‘Kaakyire’.

“I was in abroad with Akrobeto and during a chat I said the likes of Agya koo and Mr. Beautiful have all become famous so I told him why are you still here go and partake in movies because you’ll be successful. We spoke in November and around December he came and said what I told him was true so he won’t stay in abroad again so he was going back to Ghana so he left,” he said.

He continued “When he came, it actually became successful but I was always traveling to abroad so one day he sat me down and said those days I was doing drama with the African heroes band so this time I should move into acting and production. He said later on I would start directing movies and I asked him Kwasi are you sure so he said I should start doing something.

“Then I started a movie titled Ataa Ayi and it was successful so I became interested and I did another movie titled owuo safoa and it was also successful. So now I had become a producer, director and also an actor and that’s how come I ventured into movies. And when I started, being a businessman I invested there and had a lot of returns,” he added.

“There are a lot of young people in the system who don’t know that I’m a musician but rather see me to be a movie actor. That’s how they see me and some know that I also do movie soundtrack for a lot of movies so that’s how come I became an actor,” he ended.
