Stop the threats, sponsored fabrications and go to court – Prof. G .K. T. Oduro to Alex Afenyo Markin
A former Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. G. K. T. Oduro has challenged the member of Parliament for Efutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo Markin to go to court and stop the threats and harassment of voiceless people.
If Afenyo Markin has a case, he should go to court, threats wouldn’t work – Prof. G. K. T Oduro
A former Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. G. K. T. Oduro has challenged the member of Parliament for Efutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo Markin to go to court and stop the threats and harassment of voiceless people.
According to the Educational Leadership Scholar, Afenyo Markin threatened to take him to court on 20th November, 2023 if he didn’t pull down a Facebook post alleging the MP caused the demolition of a building structure belonging to a young lecturer of UEW.
At a presser on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, organized by Prof Oduro, Former Pro Vice-Chancellor, Provost – of the College of Distance Education, and Director Institute for Educational Administration (IEPA), UCC shared that as a result of the threats issued by the MP for Efutu Constituency, “Mr. Opoku, Dr. Otsin and I agreed that we should go to court. Instead of going to court, you (Afenyo Markin) resorted to threats and harassing the young lady to put pressure on me to pull down the post. You threatened to go on the publication warpath against me. You would get slanderous stories with factual inaccuracies against me”, he avered.
Prof. K. T. Oduro indicated what is even more worrying about the scandalous publications about him is that what the whole world knows of him was twisted into something different. “Even if you decide to lie against someone, say a lie which has a semblance of the truth”, he jovially stated.
The presser was necessitated by a series of scandalous publications that sort to tarnish the hard-won reputation of him which Prof. Oduro says was instigated by Afenyo Markin. This was a backlash against him for daring to post on his Facebook wall a message that sought to allow Hon Afenyo Markin to clarify an allegation that he was the brain behind the demolishing of an ongoing building belonging to Dr. Otsin and her husband.
Prof. Oduro in the press conference again reiterated that evidence emanating from the camp of the MP shows that it was the MP who authorised the demolishing of the building which has become the issue in contention.
The worry, according to Prof. Oduro is that instead of the honorable MP going the honorable path of admitting he erred and apologizing for the same, he rather resorted to threats.
He further hinted that a delegation had gone to the pastor of his sister-in-law appealing that the case “shouldn’t be pursued through the court, that, they are arranging to get them another land to build for them”, he shared.
According to Afenyo Markin, if the Honourable MP had realized his mistakes, he should have done the honorable thing by calling him to explain that in his attempt to correct an error, he mistakenly caused the destruction of his in-laws’ building and that would have sufficed.
“But to resort to issuing threats to cower me would not work. I will never allow anyone to intimidate me into zipping my mouth”, he stated.
